Official Prize List

Three top prizes and additional genre prizes listed below will be awarded.  In addition, judges will send a score and brief feedback to every entrant who provides a valid email address.  Prizes are:

First, Second, And Third Prize Winners Receive:

  • Actor readings of your scripts will be videotaped
  • Your scripts and these videotapes will be placed on line and promoted as winning scripts
  • Email announcements will draw attention to your writing

First Prize Winner Receives

  • $2,500 Cash
  • Free $300 Gold Pass to the 2011 Screenwriting Expo
  • Free one-year subscription to Creative Screenwriting Magazine ($30-$50 value)
  • We'll tell 300 production companies and agents you're among our top on-deadline creative writers

Second Prize Winner Receives

  • $500 Cash
  • Free $100 Basic Pass to the 2010 Screenwriting Expo
  • Free one-year subscription to Creative Screenwriting Magazine ($30-$50 value)

Third Prize Winner Receives

  • $250 Cash

Fourth Through Tenth Place Prizes:
  • Publicity: listing as a finalist in the contest
  • Free one-year  subscription to Creative Screenwriting Magazine or extension of subscription if winner has one.
Genre Prizes – $150 Each.  Win A Genre Prize Even If You Do Not Advance To The Finals:

Four prizes will be awarded for the best scenes in each of these four genre categories:
  • Straight Drama (present day)
  • Comedy: romcom, sitcom, buddycom/bromance/sismance
  • Historical, Future, or Elsewhere: set In any era meaningfully earlier or later than now or someplace imaginary
  • Gory or Scary: horror, thriller, slasher, splatter, vampire/werewolf, ghost
All you need to do to win a genre prize is write your Round 1 scene in any genre.  The genre prizes will go to high-scoring Round 1 scenes which are not written by the first-, second-, or third-place winners.  An individual may win only one genre prize.

All Entrants Receive:

  • Feedback:  We will post scores and brief comments on every scene received.  Postings and scores will be by account number.  Scores and comments will also be sent via email to writers who include their email addresses on the title page of the scene.

  • $14.99 Last-Minute Entry Deadline Midnight Feb. 15, 2011
  • First premise posted on this web page Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, 5 pm.. 
  • Deadline to send Round 1 scene to contest server: Mon. Feb. 21, 9 a.m.
  • 100 (+ ties) Round 2 entrants announced: about March 21-24, 2011
  • Round 2 premise posted Fri., April 1, 2011 at 5 p.m.
  • Deadline to send Round 2 scene to server: Mon. April 4, 2011, 9 a.m.
  • Finalists and genre winners named about: April 18-19, 2011
  • Finalists' scenes videotaped by mid-May 2011. 
  • Voting by the writer community opens about June 4, 2011.
  • Winners announced about 2 weeks after voting begins.
Key Changes From Spring 2010 Contest:

1. Both the entry fees and the prize amounts have been slightly reduced.

2. Round 2 survivors now have an entire weekend to write their scenes rather than one day.
